Christmas in Japan

Last week, Shinmachi's Tsukinoya and East Asian Events proudly showcased their joint performance "Christmas in Japan" at Keisei (on Thursday) and at Sengoku (on Sunday). Christmas in Japan was a fun dance show / concert performance which featured the seasonal music of Japanese vocaloids and famous pop artists. During the show, we showcased Japanese versions of songs like Jingle Bell along with a few typical J-Pop songs like Hatsune Mi-Christmas.

I've included a few pictures of the shows below for you to enjoy. This show was the last event for both Shinmachi and EAE for the year. Both groups look forward to entertaining you in 2015!

Performance Recap: Dream of Japan

Recap:
Last night, we held our first showing of our newest production, the fantasy ballet called Dream of Japan. This magical performance is the second part of our most successful (and requested) show, Dream of China. You can see below for a few pictures of the dance at Sengoku Japan. Don't worry if you missed the ballet - we will be holding it again on November 2nd at 4pm slt!

We invite you to join us as the girl overcomes her initial trepidations and braves a new fantasy world to search for the one who saved and loves her.

Overview of Both Performances

In advance of our next performance, Dream of Japan, we are holding an encore performance of our most popular show, the fantasy ballet called Dream of China. In Dream of China, we followed a girl, lost in a fantasy world and trying to get home. Her adventure was filled with magically elegant fairies, the mysterious inventions of a Tinkerer, a deadly vindictive Witch and a Lotus Queen who, at the protests of the love stricken Tinkerer, led the lost girl back home.

Performance Recap: J-Pop, the Concert

Last month, we held two showings of a light and fun show called J-Pop the Concert. See below for a brief recap of the show!

Overview:

EAE’s J-Pop: The Concert

East Asian Event’s J-Pop: The Concert is a fun song and dance performance featuring the music of some of the most popular pop artists in Japan. Don’t worry if you don’t speak Japanese. All of the songs feature a bit of English, and we’ll be providing a full translation of each song in local chat throughout the show.

So come join us for an hour of dance, special effects, costume changes and changing set designs as we party to music by Beast, Girls Generation, Yuya Matsushita, MAY’S, BigBang and maybe even a vocaloid or two.

Now everyone is dancing together, with the exception of
Hamayu who was on DJ duty.

Kara took a break, relaxing on the crates, and Len took
over as the DJ, giving Hamayu a chance to dance
with Rai and Kaminari.

We slowed things down with Error during the middle
of the performance.

while the three girls sang a beautiful love song.

The concert ended with a fun and light song, and, of course, confetti!

Recap: Celebrating the Lantern Festival

Recap:
This past week, we were debuted our newest performance: Celebrating the Lantern Festival. On Thursday we held the show at the amazing Nekkido theater, and on Sunday evening, we performed at the Sengoku tea house. We're taking a break in August to develop our next major show, and look forward to performing for you again in September.

About the Show:
The Lantern Festival is a time to awe in wonder at lovely lanterns, and a frustrating memory for four ladies who worked for months on their outdoor show only to have it ruined by an unexpected storm!

We were so excited that so many people joined us on Thursday and Sunday of this past week as we with East Asian Events presented the tumultuous story of four women's attempts to celebrate the Lantern Festival. This performance featured semi-traditional Chinese clothing and music, ballet and contemporary dance, and special effects.

starting to panic!

Now the panic has spread to the other girls!

I wasn't able to get a great shot of the storm at Nekkido,
but I was at Sengoku. The lanterns flickered and swung,
the rain came down in torrents and the stage flooded.

They decide to carry on with the show. Here they are,
rushing around to get everything together for the show

Vocaloids! A Virtual Concert

Recap:
Last night, we had an amazing showing of Vocaloids! A Virtual concert at the amazing theater and club at Nekkido. The audience filtered in quietly, and we began with about 6 or 7 total audience members. By the time the show ended, approximately 30-35 people had come into the building! We'll have to bring more chairs the next time we do the show (which is this Sunday at 5pm slt!).

About the Show:
Vocaloid: [Noun]

1. A humanoid persona voiced by a singing synthesizer application.
Example: Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Len and Kagamine Rin are popular vocaloids in Japan and throughout the world.

2. A growing internet phenomenon and the feature of a popular video game called Project Diva.

3. A fun departure from EAE's more serious performances.

Vocaloids! is a fun concert performance featuring special effects, amazing stages and the music of three of the most popular vocaloids: Hatsune Miku and the twins Kagamine Len and Kagamine Rin! This show is very light and fun, a true departure from the shows we typically produce.

About East Asian Events

Welcome to the first blog post for East Asian Events! Here's a little bit about who we are in Second Life and what we do:

We are an independent performance group, which specializes in creating East Asian themed productions. This group is not affiliated with any particular RP or sim; it simply exists to create amazing works of performance art and to share the culture of these countries with those in SL.

We have a growing repertoire of performances based on the following cultures: China, Japan, the Koreas, Mongolia and Taiwan. Refusing to adhere to a specific time period, our shows are traditional yet modern, fantasy yet reality. We live in a world of beauty, music and dance and revel in the joy which they come with.

We lack a set schedule, performing only as inspiration moves us. We want creativity to take precedence and to ensure that each performance leaves a lasting impression in the minds of the audience. And we are not an RP group, thus we do not restrict access to membership based on your involvement with a group or sim.
